Ford 501 Series Sickle Bar Mowers

I currently own a model 14-93. Looking at getting a 14-92 for a parts mower. Are parts interchangeable between these machines?

I don't know for certain about the interchangeability of parts between the 14-92s and 14-93s but I do know this. I Ford calls those different models as "components". I have a 14-393 model (component). I know that there are some differences among the various components like exact length and location of holes for pitman rods and some of the attaching pieces for mounting the mower on different tractors, but the fact is, the basic parts for the mowers are very interchangeable. If you look at a parts listing, sometimes they'll specify which "component" they are for, but more times than not, they'll simply say that the part is for a 501 mower. I've used my mower for nearly 20 years. I've replaced various parts over the years, and I've never yet had to specify which "component" the part was for. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys on this board will have better information, but this has been my experience.

Thanks Tom for that info. I have been using my mower for a little over 20 years and have been able to replace various parts. Here lately certain parts I have been unable to find so I was thinking about buying a parts mower. I can't find my model mower so was thinking a 14-92 should have most parts that are interchangeable.

I think that a "parts" mower would be a good idea. I have actually been looking for a parts mower myself. My plan has been to take some pictures of my mower, and then if I can find a parts mower, compare some of the basic units to see if they look interchangeable. I recently lost the front guide that goes directly in front of the pitman head on the sickle bar. It's somewhere in my hay field. I couldn't find it so I had to order one from Messick's. Although they were good about getting the part to me, the breakdown occurred on Saturday and I was wishing I had another mower to snatch a part from right then.
