Used finish mowers

I'm looking for recommendations for used finish mowers. I'm currently using an old KingKutter to mow several acres around my house as well as road frontage and trails. It does a fairly good job, but seems rather flimsy with my less than smooth ground. I'm looking to upgrade, but don't like the prices of new equipment (at my age, I won't be using it for many years.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for specific brands and models? I'm often not mowing under ideal conditions, and am not looking for a perfect lawn---just something that will hold up to rough conditions. In the spring I often mow when the ground is wetter than I like and the grass is higher than I like. My primary lawn area is in a low spot next to a ten acre pond. This time of the year there is frequently a lot of dew on the grass when it is cool enough to mow. I prefer to mow when it is cool rather than waiting for the grass to dry and the temperature to get into the 90's with a swarm of deer and horse flies.

i have a woods rm600 i bought used 12 years ago. use it behind a international 240u or a fergie to-20. works out good for me.

I've had this Landpride 72" for 14 years and it was well used when I got it. It is a far better machine than my King Kutter which I bought new 3 years before I got this.

im sure this varies depending where yo ulive but round here Woods, King Kutter, and Landpride are common finish mowers.

I have a Woods RD7200 and it is a good heavy mower. Had a John Deere 272 as well. It was even more heavy duty then the woods but was a side discharge. I prefer the rear discharge.

Personally I prefer Bush Hog brand finish mowers. Very good quality and will mow down thicker heavier stuff than you should with a mower like that. Woods mowers with the top mount gearbox and Land Pride are also very good mowers as far as heavier duty finish mowers.

A 72 inch Zero Turn will cut more lawn faster than a 84 inch Finish Mower. And it will look nicer! A good 84" new finish Mower will cost $4-5K and a new cheap 60" Zero Turn will cost $5K, a good Zero Turn up to $10K. You do have to keep another piece of equipment running, but that is kind of a wash.

Yep, you are right! I've been researching this and am still using a 8 foot brush hog! And, the lawn looks terrible!

I have a whole army of tractor/mowers to keep things trimmed around the farm. Two of which are a 4' zero turn, and a Woods finish mower. I can't see any difference in the job they do. They cover the same amount of area. The finish mower is almost twice as wide, but the zero turn goes about twice as fast. I can't take that pounding on small tires any more, so I prefer the finish mower, and use the zero turn almost as a trim mower, where there's lots of trees. The major difference in performance is the rear discharge Woods will cut in any conditions. My major complaint with the Ferris is the grass needs to be bone dry, or it builds up underneath.

I have approx. 2 acres of pond damn and bank to mow and as Bob said I Can't take the beating that the small tires give using my 0- turn. It may mow twice as fast as the finish mower but if you cant stay on it at that speed what have you got.

Just saying

We really like our Farm King, 3pt, rear discharge mower. We've had it for nearly 20 years. Mows very quickly, and is very quiet. Bought it because the fabricated deck and gear box seemed a bit heavier than others at the time.
