IH 510 / International 510 Help and Specs

I'm looking at buying a IH 510 seed drill locally and before I go ahead with the sale, I was wondering if someone can answer a few questions.

I have a 5 acre lot that needs to be replanted. Is this a good choice for my first seeder? I do have both a furrow plow, and tiller that can be used before I seed if need be. It is between the old IH 510, and a newer JD broadcast seeder. I have heard that broadcast seeding is not the best route, as it wasted alot of seed, and doesn't have a good germination rate.

Would a 3250lb tractor at 35hp be enough to pull the IH 510. My tractor is rated to pull 4000lbs.

I do not have a cultipacker on hand, but i headd you can set up a chain drag behind it to help. Really I'm just looking for some guidance on what my best route ahead is.

How wide is the 510?

Does it have a small seed box or just grain box?

What are you seeding?

I run a 13 run 510-semimount, 3 boxes, good for small grain and grass seed fertilizer. Works great on plowed/harrowed land. It has the original drag chains and I do not do anything to the field after the drill has passed.

I've seeded thousands of acres with my 510. Mine is a 12-24 with press wheels. One bad thing about it is the transport lock. There is no slide or forgiveness at all. You hook the hoses backward and you
bust the eyelet. Simple as that.

The local dealer keeps at least 2 of those castings for the bottom end of the cylinder on hand at all times. About $75 Canadian the last time I checked.
