Good afternoon. While mowing I lost the outermost rock guard on my IH 100 sickle bar mower. This guard is a slightly different shape than all the others (I am running single guards) so it will mate up with the outer shoe. The Case/NH/IH parts diagram shows that the regular guards are part number MC2041Z, while the special end guard is MC2043Z.
However, I see that at least some online vendors sell the MC2041Z with the edge of the rock guard base sawn off with a hacksaw. These rock guards are sold as MC2043Z, but from the pictures I see they are obviously modified MC2041Z's. Some of the pictures even show the original 2041 part number.
I have some spare universal rock guards (MC2041Z substitute) and am equipped to modify them. However, before I went down that path, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing this. The proper part is a little more expensive but not available locally, so the real cost for me is down time and shipping. I just don't want to create more problems that a little extra money and patience and my part won't fix. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dave
