The cousin up on the farm bought a newer bigger combine earlier this summer. It has
a 20ft. grain head. Too wide to go down the road on the combine with, or get thru
farm gateways. we dug out an old NH model 15 twin rail wagon gear out of a hedgerow.
The side rails were twisted, tongue was a ridgid one and all bent and broken, I was
able to salvage parts from tongues on a couple other junked wagons and made a nice
long telescoping tongue for it. I also had to rob some tie rods and remanufacture
them to steer it. I ordered new 3"x5"x1/4" tubing for new longer side rails, and a
piece of 2"x4"x1/4" tubing for the riser assembly to set the cutter bar of the
header onto. The arms for the cutter bar riser are also salvaged broken parts that
broke in the separator area of the 2166 combine. The only thing left to make, is the
2 adjustable brackets that will slide on the LH rail to support the header mouth
that attaches to the combine feeder house assy. I should have them done and painted
by tomorrow night. I just had to figure out the lock downs on the brackets. I have
new wheels ordered and there are 4 new small car tires that the uncle bought in a
misc pallet at an auction. The tires should be small enough to let the header rise
over and set down on the framework.Out-of-pocket expense for steel, new wheels, paint, welding supplies, and some wheel bearings is around $850. I don't count my time, BUT I have some leftover new steel and paint for one of my personal projects ---------------Loren

Looks good! It's too hot to be cutting wood lately so you had a good project to work on.

It really looks good, and economically built-always a plus. One thing though- I would really reconsider the car tires and go with a heavier duty tire. All the header carts I have seen have tires that hold 60 psi. Headers are pretty heavy. Good job, Mark.

wish you were closer those style head movers lucky bring 300.00 . all in my area are full suspension units rear steer also on lots made handle 35ft and larger 16 row corn heads etc 20 ft head pretty hard find nowdays.

Looks GOOD Loren--Built the same thing for my Deere 925--I thought you sold your CBS paint booth--I still have mine and it works good in the hot dry weather we have been having---Tee

nice job, Loren! I needed a cart for the 6 row head on my combine. I had an old JD 953 running gear and bought a longer pipe reach, and some 11Lx 10 mounted tires on 6 hole rims. darn tires stood almost as tall as 7.50x15 tires. Finally bought a new header cart.
