Hi guys.
Ran across a Sherman power digger model
1103, but I can't find any info on this
model. Has anyone ever heard of these or
have any info.
Thanks!

Don't know about that model of one but I have parts and pieces of an Old Sherman power digger

ello Paul,
I did not find an 1103 online or in the book "Wain-Roy and the Invention of the Backhoe" where other Shermans are covered. Can you get another look at the model number or a picture of the tag? The few Sherman tags I have seen are located on the plate between the digger and the resuvuar.

Here's a pic of the tag

Judging by my serial number and patent number it is my guess that yours is much newer. There is a section in this book that mentions making a deal with Ford. Could be yours falls in that era. I've not read it cover to cover so it is just a guess. The Sherman's of the late 50's still use the round tube arms but are reinforced with sheet metal.

Between mine and the full grown rentals I have used the independent dual acting out riggers are the way to go.

I wonder if this does have something to do with the deal between Sherman and Ford that you mention. I'll have to try to get a copy of that book to check out sometime, thanks!

ike is pictured. Going by the 1958 model down the road from me I would guess that one to be produced in the 1960's or newer.

he 58 Ford down the road is an actual backhoe, not a tractor with addons. The pipe design is like mine with sheet metal over the top of it. Contrary to what I thought at first the 1103 you pictured look's a great deal like the sturdier 54C model from 1953 pictured below. What sets it apart from the others in this book is the swing cylinders are up higher.

I have no idea what model it is. It came off an 8N Ford I had at one time. Guess I might be able to look and find out

I'd appreciate it! If I end up getting this, I may be on the lookout for some parts so it's nice to know a source. Should be a metal tag somewhere on your machine. Also, where are you located? Thanks!
