JD 350 Sickle Mower Update

Thanks again for the help adjusting the belt. I brought the mower to my shop, adjusted the belt per the instructions I was given, and everything runs smoothly. Greased all the fittings and oiled the cutterbar and tried it out. Works fine. Need to put stabilizers on my lift arms to keep it from swaying, but it cut a couple of roadbanks and did a good job. Paid the man for it and got 2 extra sickles to go with it. Planning to take one of the extra sickles later this week and put new sections on it and swap them. If I go to bolts instead of rivets, will I need new hold down plates with extra clearance to accommodate the nuts? I haven't looked that closely at the hold downs.

Hi FordTractorMan

Have gone to bolts instead of rivets on a NH451 mower and a NH492 haybine without having to change hold downs. Try it and turn it over by hand and see what your clearance is like. Have had the great rivet drive here, no more. Bolts are so easy and less time consuming to change just go easy on the spanner as they will shear like they are supposed to. Ask me how I know this?

Hope that you found the infamous "[i:654c4848f0]hidden[/i:654c4848f0]" grease fitting.

Hope this helps.

Alright, James - you got me. I should have said, "all visible fittings." I'll get that one next. Need to level it better and adjust the tilt back. The adjustment is there and I've dosed it w/Free-All, so I'm hoping it'll free up. I have an owner's manual coming in a few days. Ebay has several. Thanks again.
