MF 245 what will it handle

I have a MF 245 diesel. It's in good condition and runs well. About 4000 hours. I use it mostly for baling with a NH BC5050 baler. It has no issues running the baler. I've also used it previously on a NH315, again no issues. I really need to do something about a newer haybine. I currently use a Hesston PT7 that is really getting old and breaking often. Parts are difficult to come by. I usually run the mower with a JD1020 gas, again no issues, plenty of power. I use the JD because I don't have remotes on the MF (Yet). So I'd really like to have a NH472 which is about the same size as the PT7 and I'm sure would work just fine behind either the JD or MF. A couple of problems. While there seems to be an abundance of 472s across the country there is nothing and I mean nothing in the NW that I can find. I guess the next option is a NH 488, which is a couple feet larger and takes more hp to operate. There are very few of these around the NW but at least there are some. Shipping an assembled mower from say Ohio would be pretty costly, likely almost as much as the mower itself. So the question is, will either or both of my tractors run a NH488 without killing them? All flat ground, about 40 acres total in 5-7 acres parcels.

HI Chief

Read your post, I run a NH 492 which is very similar to a 489. These are 9 foot cut machines and weigh around 3000lbs or 1355kgs in my language. The recommendation is 35 PTO hp to run them by the manual, this will depend on if you are cutting on hills. They are easy to run and remote hydraulics is a must. I am sorry I have no idea about a MF 245. If you get one get the manual for it and set it up properly and then it will be maintenance.

You will be good with either tractor. Start hunting salvage yards for remotes for the Massey. There is a Jonas Nolt in Newville PA that specializes in parting out MF tractors. They might not have a web site as they are Old Order Mennonites but do have a phone. Tom

I just sold a Hesston 1090 haybine because I went to a discbine. The Hesston was my favorite, having owned NH, JD. I could get new parts from AGCO and salvage yards if I had time for freighting stuff. I'm in NW Oregon and we do not have the choices are Midwest friends do when it comes to machinery. I hope you can find what you're looking for.

We used to run a Hesston PT10 behind a MF150 with the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel for may years, and had no problems. The 245 should have to problem with a 10' mower.
