I'm currently looking at an International 990 haybine with a 7' cut. I'll be using a Farmall H with a power kit to run it, so I'm not really interested in a 9' machine.
Wondering what weak points are of this machine, things to look for, what parts availabilty is like for those units, etc. Please educate me and tell me what I should know about this machine before I drop a grand on it. Thanks so much in advance guys!!!

I had the nine foot version for a few years, it worked well except that i couldn't get the fear end to cut well. I had to get grass cut faster so I stepped up to a disc moco. The only problem I had was that the seal of the output shaft gearbox started leaking. They are generally very well though of.

have a 7ft unit with 2 rubber rolls. This was my first year using it. I replaced the chain because it was stretched so much it wouldnt sit down on the big cog. Adjusting the spacing on the rolls is a bit of a pain (need to remove spacer plate).

I ran it behind a 4000 SU on hilly ground and it didnt didnt use much power.

If you search on here you will find more info on the 990 mower.

Check the mounting brackets for the wobble box both dad and
an uncle had them and I’ve had to weld the mounting points
on both of them. I think the cracking happens when the knife
drive head bushing gets wore but those machines have been
gone for a few years now. Other than that great machines.

I grew up with a pair of 7ft 990's. They were great machines. Ran them with everything form a D14 and WD45 Allis to 1020-3020 John Deere's. If it has a steel top roll make sure it is all tight with no broken welds. Neighbor had a piece of steel off his 990 come up and hit him in the head while he was out mowing. Needed several stitches. The 2 machines that dad had came with top and bottom rubber rolls. Other than a new knife every other year and all new guards on one they never caused any problems. Some farmers thought they were better than the 1190's that replaced them. Tom

Pretty good outfit then . Only seen a couple around here none
still operating . New Holland had the hay business figured out
in them days other equipment was ok just maybe not quite
as big of market

Did not know they made a 7 ft model, only ever saw one of them and it was a 9 ft in scrap yard. Now mine was a Case 555 9 ft unit, same as a Heston PT-10 and pulled it with a Farmall H with no problems.
