Vermeer 604K Baler Belts - Twist???

My old Vermeer 604K round baler came with two wide belts on the outside and two narrow on the inside. There were NO twists. After a "plug" yesterday I cleaned out the hay. Now the two inside belts are each twisted. The book says they are supposed to be twisted. My neighbor has a 605K. His belts are not twisted. Should mine be twisted or is it better to run them flat ways??? kelly

I own a Vermeer and have been around a number of them like mine a 505SI and yours they came with a twist at the front so you can see the bale better there is no baling benefit to having a twist, I do not have them in mine as to me it just wears/ages the belts faster, your manual I think should say about the same thing

There's an adjustable guard on the front of the baler. It needs to be adjusted to about 1/8" clearance of the belts, otherwise the twist will move instead of staying at the front of the baler. I have ran my 604K with & without the twist in the belts. Did not notice a difference. Besides being able to see in the baler, the twist is supposed to keep loose hay from building up around the belts.
