Im in a pinch....changed twine ball and now my 271 quit tying on left side of bale; I looked after 3 bales missed and there is a bunch all around the knotter...three strands on left side of bale and broken; what did I do? I ran it thru the proper route and thru the eye and tied it off...I dont understand? Please help....thanks right side is ok....

Carefully remove all that twine that is wrapped around the billhook and rethread the needle. You should be good to go.

Could be your twine. I got away from trying to use sisal because I couldn't get good stuff anymore. Went to plastic and most of my knotting issues disappeared.

After rethreading and making the first knot you will need to manually strip the first half knot from the billhook.

Did you maybe put the twine ball upside down? I did that once, gave me fits with twine twisting around the bill every three bales. Someone on here straightened me out.

MANY years ago, An "Experienced farmer" told Dad and I to take the first 6-8 feet of a new spool of twine and cut it off before threading it. The 271 we had, and the 273 that replaced it, would wrap twine on the bill hook on the first dozen or so bales. Once everything got shined up it was good. If the twine got out of the grooves in the tensioner, that could also mess up a knot.
