Any information on the above sickle mower greatly accepted.
I have replaced the blade and pitman ,
Pitman turns easy by hand but when the mower is moving nothing any ideas ?

I think, but do not know that it is part 40 in the diagram I found. We had one of these in the equipment "lot" behind the barn for 40 years from before
I was born till I was 10. So it was sold to a horse powered farmer in 1959, and I only sat on it, not operated it. Jim

That didnt make sense to me jan. IF you move the lever to engage the drive mech the pittman should turn, or said more rightly the flywheel should turn moving the pittman. IF that lever is disengaged, then yes the flywheel wont turn even if the mower is moving.
THE OP MIGHT CONSIDER BUYING, HAY AND HAYING BY LINN MILLER EDITOR OF SMALL FARM JOURNAL. It tells all about the JD mowers, aloong with IHC and a few others

You have not engauaged the gears in the gear box and control lever is located on gear box, just don't remember exactly where. Then there is a foot pedal to right of seat that when you push doen while riding will lift cutter bar to jump over a stump or something simular. That foot pedal only works when you have the main fift lever in down-work position. Then there is a short lever on right side to tilt cutter bar forward or backward-higher cut so it will not gather as much trash off of field. But for height of cut that is controled by where the shoe of both inner and outer end of cutter bar is set with the bolt. There is NO BRAKE on any mower.

so the foot pedal on the right side does exactly what ?
I was pulling it with my 3032 and the wheels locked I pushed down on the pedal and it disengaged the gears and i would go forward ,
The pitman and flywheel turn maually but when i go forward nothing
Advice ?
And to those who answered many thanks

There may be something jammed up in the gear box. Take the cover off the drive gear box and take a look. Let us know what you find.

That foot pedal only workes if somebody is riding in the seat and uses it to lift the cutter bar high enough to go over something like a stump and as soon as you let off the pedal the cutter bar drops to working position. Does the same as the hydrolic does on a newer tractor mower. And you do realize you only drive with a tractor no faster than you can walk comfortably. That is the walking speed of a horse that the mower was made for. Faster could break things.

Okay
So I hooked it up to my tractor, the flywheel spins by hand and the blade actuates , When I go forward I hear the clicking in the wheels then I lower the blade and now the flywheel does nothing I go about five feet and then the gears lock up , So I climb down and push down on the lever on the left side, then it rolls and no flywheel again
Any Ideas why it is locking up , I plan on taking the gear case cover
