Short second cut grass hay, very dry, wants to follow belts up the front of baler. Have tried slow engine rpm or fast, makes no difference. Baler is a silage special. What is the secret to stop this.

Cut longer hay . The old new Holland 851 would carry short grass and spit it out the front unthreading the twine arms every other bale that was a real treat let me to yuh. Finally put a piece of expanded metal in front to keep the hay from pulling the twine out .

I usually bale at 500-510 pto rpm. I have tried faster and slower. With this short hay, I have tried 8-9 mph. It is six weeks since first cut and height of grass
is what it is, about 10-12 inches tall.

How large is windrow? I suggest raking a larger windrow.

I normally bale with my 467 @ 480 pto rpm's @ 6 mph having raked three 9' swaths with the Coastal hay making 2-4 66'' tall rd bales per acre. I have added 14'' long rods on each end of starter roll in between original rods. My baler very rarely runs hay up the front of the belts enough to require cleaning of the accumulated hay

If windrow isn't large enough drier type hay falls off forming bale about as fast or faster than being feed on bale.
