John Deere 672 rake question

I have a new-to-us John Deere 672 side delivery hay rake.
Look like it has two adjustment options, 1) height, and 2) angle.

The height is understood, but what does the angle do? What are its consequences?

If the basket is upright the windrow will be fluffed up more. Angled forward and the windrow will be flatter and supposedly shed water better.

Another question for anyone using a 672 rake:
[b:9a0a186aee]How the heck do you back with this thing?[/b:9a0a186aee]

The close distance between the two pivot points makes this nearly impossible to back (to me).

I REALLY need to get my old David Bradley rake going again.....much preferred that to this JD 672.....

I am NOT having much success with this rake. :(

Replaced all the teeth, but this thing just clumps up and doesn't do its job of raking very well. At all.

Then after a few passes, some of the teeth are bent again!?!
If I raise it up just a tad, it leaves hay in the field.

What the heck am I doing wrong with this rake?

I rake maybe 50 feet, and then it just clogs up.

(It is hydraulic-motor driven, running at correct speed @ approx. 2 rps)

if anyone has some insight in this rake, I'd appreciate it....

Thanks for your reply.

Regrettably, I don't have a manual.....yet.

So, about 15 rpm per MPH is good?
Seems awfully slow; maybe we're spinning this thing just too fast then?

...or put differently: 1/2 rev/sec at a speed of 2 MPH?

1/2 rev per second would be 30 rpm which would be 15 rpm per mph at 2 mph. That falls in line with the manual's 12 to 20 rpm/mph.

Thanks Jim.ME; it looks like it was spinning too fast and at a too low speed which caused all the bunching/clogging up.

We kept it at the speed you mentioned, and it all worked just fine after that for the rest of the fields.
(I reduced the setting of the flow-control-valve, kept the tractor at 1200rpm, and went into a much higher gear to achieve the desired rake-rotational speed vs. forward speed ratio)

THANKS for the help and fast replies! <thumpbsup>
