Hello everyone, New to the alley. I inherited a 47 IH baler. I have yet to put in the field. On inspection, I found the cord holder keeper loose, Part # 668963r1,lateral play. Part# 4954749 is a spacer according to IH parts sheet. I looked them up and they look the same. What is the difference and should there be a lot of play? Also, in what position of the knotter Is HOME to ck adjustments? Hope someone here can help.

Best thing you can do is buy a manual for the knotter. IH knotters are touchy to make work and everything has to be adjusted correctly. I got my manual years ago for my 46 from Binder books.

Thank you, I thought that would be what I needed. I did not know there was a manual just for the knotter. Learning experience.

Home is when the needles are all the way out of the chamber. By "cordholder" do you mean the porcelain twine holder? Shouldn't matter much
as long as it can't come out of it's holder.

I'm not sure what is available for the 47. My 46 has a set of manuals divided by sections of the baler. The knotter has its own manual but all the manuals came as a set.

Hello,
the cord holder should swing freely on the stud. I don't recall there being much lateral play. I'd check mine, but there's twine in it at the moment.
The manual for the knotters is GSS1335B. The operator's manual is 1010373R5 & the service manual for the baler, which also covers the knotters is
GSS1348. If you would like, you can order the manuals directly from CaseIH with the link below. Just go to the bottom of the linked page & look for
the "Technical Publications Store" order now tab. Click on that & enter whichever number I posted to get the manual(s) of your choice. They have a
download .pdf option. Saves on shipping & gets you your info right away. Those manuals are usually a bit cheaper than anywhere else, also. Except for
the parts catalogs. Those get pricey due to the amount of time it took to scan them. Also, most IH machines built after about 1955 can be found on
their online parts page. The parts catalog on the Messicks site is also another good resource for info & parts.
