round baler

They came in hydraulic tie or electric tie.

You need dual remotes if hyd tie.

Also made as the Case International 8430 and Massey Ferguson 1744 so you have some options for parts.

The baler was made a decent length on time under all three names.

I think that they are good balers. Fairly easy to work on, and they don't give much trouble as they are mechanically simple. The 540 uses hydraulic cylinders instead of springs for bale density. I put a set of belts on a 540 a few years ago. They only have one set of belts. Not hard to replace pickup teeth. They cost about $5 each. All parts should be available. Bearings can be obtained aftermarket, as can belts. They use #50 and #60 roller chain on the left side to drive rollers, pickup etc. They have three maple blocks that the chains run on. Sounds primitive, but they work good and last a long time in this application. They have a large v-belt that drives the pickup. We have the little brother of the 540, the 530. Very similar mechanically but makes a 39x48 roll(smaller) than the 540. Neither is a real high volume baler. You have to stop and back up, put the twine on, then stop the PTO and dump the bale. Then pull up a few feet, close the gate and go again. Bale ramps are available and if they are installed you do not have to back up when the bale is ready.
