Jd 336 baler

I have a 336 jd baler. Weve owned it since new. Its had replaced (used) knotters and various other parts. The problem I am having with it is the bill hook on the left hand knotter will turn 180 degrees and stay stuck backwards. Im doing this if I dont notice it soon enough, it will break the wiper plate off when it attempts to tie the last not. All the clearances look good and Im really confused as to why it is doing this.

I'm not up on JD, but the gear that turns the hook on the NH is secured by a pin driven through the gear and through
the shaft. Your description makes me think that pin may be broken.

I thought that at first too, but when it happens, the gear is also turned backwards the flat of the gear that is suppose to slide on the big gear (not sure what its called) will be turned completely around. It seems like there would have to be to much distance between or play in the billhook shaft. But it all seems tight and just like the other knotter. I have to completely remove the knotter to spin the billhook back around each time it happens.

(quoted from post at 03:51:03 06/16/20) Either the billhook pinion gear is worn out or the large intermittent gear is worn out, or both.

Agreed with Roger In Iowa

I would also look at how much backlsh is in-between these gears. You should be able to remove some shims and tighten it up

(quoted from post at 18:01:42 06/16/20) Bingo! Saw it happen on my 346.
Thanks everyone. Ive looked closer at it today and I think my main problem is the roll pin that holds the main gear on the shaft has been pushed over and bent. It looks like the main gear is about 1/8 of an inch pushed to the right, causing that much slack to be between it and the knotter. Gonna try to correct that and see if it helps.

I replaced my billhooks last year. Yes, sounds like a sheared pin. The question is what caused that?
