JD 858A RAKE GEAR CASE PARTS NEEDED

I've got an 858A JD hay rake that's starting to have drive gear problems. I'm interested in locating replacements for the two gears in the gear case. Anyone know someone parting out one of these rakes? Or a source for obsolete JD parts? I believe the past numbers are AG775E and G6573E.

Parts dept shows to have 2 ea-G6573E but none of the AG775E. It's my understanding that you must utilize a participating dealer to obtain parts.

I've checked with my local JD dealer, and was told both gears were obsolete and not available. Could it be that they're not a "participating dealer"?

Is Parts Depot affiliated with John Deere, or do they collect old inventory from the manufacturers when they decide to make parts obsolete?

Thanks for the help!

Brother owns a JD 858A rake that was previously owned by my father. I have used this rake more than my brother. What exactly is
your rake doing? Brother's rake started having a problem with the basket intermittenly stopping. Usually I would just back up a
few feet and it would resume working correctly, until the next time it would stop which might be an hour later or 10 minutes later.
The problem got worse so I dismantled the gear box and found the teeth on the clutch collar, part number G544E had worn to the point
where it would become disengaged from the other sector. I removed the clutch collar and built up the teeth with an arc welder,
ground them back to the original configuration the best I could, reassembled it and it worked fine but after many hours of use it
started doing the same thing so I repeated the previous repair configuration but did a better job of rebuilding the teeth and it has
held since. If this sounds familiar, I would suggest you to the same repair. If something entirely different, then your problem
might be the gears, which I think could also be repaired by a competent machinist. I also have a spare complete gear case but don't
really want to let it go. Hope this helps.

Good info, thanks!

My local JD dealer is listed as a dealer with Parts Depot, but perhaps the counterman wasn't aware of this option. Now I know.

Yes, my problem is with the basket randomly disengaging. Usually happens when I stop; but sometimes will not occur for several hours. I will disassemble the gear case next chance I get and inspect for clutch collar wear. That's something I should be able to rebuild here.

The previous owner had mentioned he had "made" a new gear in the past . Maybe he was referring to rebuilding the clutch collar teeth like you described.

I have been looking for the gears to get an idea what would be the worst case scenario (cost and availability wise) if everyone in the gearbox wasn't getting along. This rake is the only equipment that I don't have a service manual for. I'll have to locate one so I know what's supposed to be in that gear box.

Thanks again!
