Trying to get the gland out of the end of the tailgate cylinder. 855 NH round baler.
Set screw is removed. Not a double set screw, I looked. My understanding is I need to push the gland on down in the bore to get to the snap ring out. Sound about right?
Can't get the gland on down in the bore, got it to move maybe 3/8 inch with much hammering, probably boogered up the gland where the wiper sits. Don't have a brass drift small enough to get in there. Took a heat gun to the tube, got the oil smoking, but no luck.
Any thoughts? Or good luck, it's a 30 year old cylinder.
Gave up for tonight, got it soaking in PB blaster. But need to get it fixed, got 40 acres down. Maybe should have fixed the baler first, but hey, I've resealed several cylinders, how hard can it be, right?
Thanks
