Ford 501 Sickle 3 point lift

Picked up a Ford 501 sickle mower to replace a broken down haybine. With less than 10 acres total of hay ground, I decided to try something small and hopefully simple. Grass hay, so lack of conditioning not a big deal.

Found this used sickle close by and was pretty pleased at how it cut the hay. I had a few shaggy strips where I had clumps, but for a first try with a sickle, not bad. The one thing I wonder about is the lift. When I lift the 3 point all the way, the inner shoe comes up less than a foot, and the outer shoe about the same. Is this normal? I think there is an adjusting spring that I may need to adjust. What should be the height I'm seeing on both the inner shoe and the outer shoe when I lift the 3 point? Any advice on this? Thanks!

It’s common to have the far end lift higher.

It has to do with where your clamp is on the left tractor 3pt arm. A 1/2 inch further back will make a big difference.
