Hunting Square baler

In looking for a square baler, and theres only one for sale currently on Facebook market. Its a NH, and the ad states (It works fine, just have to constantly adjust wire feeder). I have a Case 140W and it didnt have a (wire feeder). What is that, AND can it be fixed?

IMHO wire feeder on small sq baler would be the needles. If needles require constant adjustment I suggest to "run not walk away" from that baler unless you're an excellent wire baler technician!!!!!!!!!!

And around me you could NOT GIVE a wire baler away. People remember years ago when too many cows got hardware disease from the wire bales.

Well, I can see that few have had NH balers, and that those who have had them didnt like them. Both aspects are good to know. Thanks

Theres lots of new Holland balers out there. I think it depends on the area. They're knows as one of the best around here. I have one and have no complaints

I bought my NH 273 30 yrs ago and it was worn out pretty bad. I have replaced some worn out parts and it has been very good to me. I have a NH 275 as a back up which I bought for parts but it was in better shape than my 273 so I fixed it and it sits in reserve for when the 273 gives up the ghost. Nothing at all wrong with NH haybine or balers, but all things shall come to an end with all machinery. Sounds like the one OP checked on might of been one to run away from, but that is not reflective on NH hay equipment. I am using all old machinery and if you don't abuse it and learn to work with it that old stuff can still do the job. If your a modern farm you wouldn't probably be using this old stuff anyway. Most farms around here don't have small sq balers laying around anymore. Very few use old haybines and balers. In Wi New Holland was a big player in hay equipment back 30-40 years ago. Regards, John.

I still farm with the old equipment. I have a 130 W Case baler that ive tried to keep running for
20yrs. It does not tie, and I cannot fix it it seems. I hay with a 48 H Farmall on a simi mount
mower. I rake with a steel wheel JD rake on a 34 CC Case tractor. Knotters are way to complicated
for me, and I have ran AC and MH Combines, and IHC corn pickers

New ones might be different than the 116W but that is what destroyed the wire baler market here.

JD 116W utilizes twister boxes & IIRC wraps wire on each end of bale. It also leaves loose horse shoe shaped short pieces of wire on the top of bale.

Modern JD wire balers utilize twister hooks to wrap wire on 1 end of bale & leave no short pieces of wire if tying system is operating as designed.
