I would like a 7 or 8 ft finish mower. Anybody got an suggestions. I do not want a flail mower, this will be used on a 3-4 acre lawn.

I have a 7' Sitrix finish mower. I will probably get a new one in the next few years. I like the Woods or Bush Hog. It's true the wider the mower the flatter the ground needs to be. My yard is 5+ acres and I would not say it's flat. I don't have problems scalping. I do mow it 3 1/2 inches. If your ground is rolling or sloping you would be fine. If it has lots of high spots, dips or low spots then that's when you scalp. I would try to get one with hard tires. Also rear discharge.

I need l something that goes on a 3 point hitch.

Did you get the Sitrix from Sweets? They are about $1500 cheaper than a Landpride or Woods, haven't checked Brush Hog.

I bought the Sitrix used from and individual. One thing I don't like about it is that it tends to windrow. I do have the back a little higher than the front. I believe it just the nature of the design. I have a friend that has a Woods and it doesn't windrow like mine. I cut my grass very frequent. I think Landpride would be a good brand too. Look at blade tip speed when you are shopping. Generally faster blade tip speed gives you a better cut.

A 60” or a 72” ZTR will mow circles around an 8’ finish mower. Have a better looking lawn too.

You don't say what tractor you are putting it behind. Personally, for only 3 to 4 acres, I would save the money and go with a used 6'. I have 3 5' deck machines and 2 6' machines. Two of my 5' are set at 2 3/4" and do a great job on my smooth 3 acres. My 2 6' decks and other 5' are set at 4" and will still scalp in spots on less than perfect yards. I paid $600 for my 6' Landpride deck 15 years ago and it was heavily use when I got it. It been cutting 1 1/2 acres a week since I got it with one belt and one set of blades. My Jd 1145 replaced the Farmall A and cuts 2 acres a week. In four cuttings and one yard rolling with a 3' roller, it has used less than 5 gallons of fuel. If you watch close enough you can get a good 6' commercial mower for less than a deck will cost. My JD is a 2001 and I picked it up in Jan. for $1,300.

I thought about going the zero turn route but I would rather spend the extra time on my Ford 3000. Yes I like being on it that much!!!

I have a 60hp tractor sitting idle. A 72 inch zero turn would be nice and faster. But, it is one more piece of equipment to keep running! I can get a new 84" finish mower for $3500, wouldn't got much of a zero turn for that!

Keep the ideas coming.

I have a Woods 7' rear discharge finish mower I found used. It's the only mower I have which doesn't care how wet the grass is. I never have to clean it out. I mow one large open area, and one large tree obstructed area. I have a small zero turn for the dooryard which I also use for trimming around the obstructions where I mow with the tractor. Amount of time to cover an area is about equal between mowers. The zero turn is about half as big, and goes twice as fast. The 4 MPH ride on the tractor is much more suitable to this old body!
