Are we sure it is an IH. That hitch could bolt to most any drawbar.

I have never seen an IH like it with a round tube and flat iron to make the A frame.

The drawbar looks to be aftermarket. And it’s got some castings that match IH numbers. But that’s no guarantee I guess. If it’s something else then I’d like to know that too. I need to get a pitman arm and some teeth.

definitely an old IH.But none I've ever seen .I wonder if it's something from an F series. Those old mowers share a lot of common parts. Sections, gards, the belt, and lots of other stuff will fit.

Its without a doubt a IHC sickle mower. I think it has been added to by the tube and resetting the rear wheel. I have one just about exactly like it that hasnt been cobbled up as this one has. To tell what size pitman you need, Rotate the flywheel to the furthurst to the right you can. The knob for the pitman should be at 3 00. Then shove the sickle until the first section is centered in between the first rock guard. Measure the distance from the knob on the flywheel to the knob on the sickle. Take your metal ends to the store, take some bolts and fit them to a pitman until you find the right size. IF you want to make one, Use oak, mayby hickory. do with the flywheel and sickle as stated above. Mount your metal ends on both knobs. Take your stick and fit it beside the metal pieces to get length. Cut it if needed for length. Then fit it inside first one set of metal mountings and mark the holes, then fit it to the other end and do the same. BE SURE to drill the holes using a post drill, as that will make the stick last MUCH longer than drilling it with a electric hand drill. I KNOW.

Thanks so much. Does it matter what number? C24, C28 etc? For ordering other parts? Or are they all the same except for length of the arm?

Your mower is identical to mine except I do not have the hitching bar. I have two pins that attach to the lift arms of the 3PH and the trailing wheel is your third point. I don't know the model #, but if I recall it may be a 100 series. I know it is almost as old as I am (don't ask!). The local IH dealership still has the parts manuals for it although not on their computer. Parts are still available (but expensive).

I doubt you can order any other parts other than the V belt and the pitman. The sickle comes by measurment and it SHOULD? be 7ft. The sickle sections, rock guards, rivets can be found at TSC or other farm stores that supply those parts. U might, if your not going to use it this year, cut the tension on the belts, and once you have time, turn the flywheel so that the belt gets moved and reshaped from who knows how many deades in one position

Well I’m hoping to get it running in time to cut the new hay. I’ll need a pitman as a bare minimum

Not a 25V or a 27 mower but all cutter bar parts were the same from the 1895 horse mowers up.

That casting number 405 875 R1 is the number for the main frame of a No. 16 Series Tractor Mower. It looks like the mower has had some sort of later frame added. No idea if it was an IH adaptation or not.

Throw an aditional $500 into it before you try going to field as all cutter parts will be shot , best go out and buy a good non cobbled up working mower. And the No. 16 is one of the mowers for the F series tractors drawbar fully mounted. What you have will make you so mad you will never want to see anouther mower. even after sinking enough money in it to go buy a good mower.
