Correct twine for baler

The person I purchased the New Holland 311 baler from said they
always ran 7200 baler poly twine In the baler. Stopped by Tractor
Supply and they only had 9000 poly for purchase besides the sisal
and the 20000 for the round baler.
So the question is will this be a problem?
I wonder twine holder and about the finger that wipes the knot off.
What’s your experience. What should I look for in the way of
problems?

The 20,000 is for round balers so leave that out.

9000 has been the standard for small square balers for years.

7200 is a little stronger, a little thicker. It too is for small square balers. You can maybe pack the bale a little tighter, or handle the bales a little harder with bale throwers and such using 7200.

So, either 9000 or 7200 should work.

Now, poly or sisal. I hardly ever see poly twine used on a small square bale here. End users don’t like it. Period. That is a ‘here’ thing. Of late the sisal twine has become of poorer quality, and that is an issue to try to deal with. If you are happy with poly that is fine, it has some good points and some bad points.

Now, a well used good older baler. The needles, the knotters, the knives - they all get adjusted and used to whatever they are working with. If it is working really good with whatever of the 4 options you have (sisal or poly in 9000 or 7200) it might act up and not tie as good. Even the needles get the eye hole wore into a groove, and a different twine might not sit right in that worn groove.

Or maybe it will tie better, who knows.

But, there are a dozen little tweaks that can make it work better or worse with a ‘different’ size or type of twine.

So, give it a try. If it doesn’t work right, it might not be the new twine, it might just be the way your baler is worn in and set and adjusted.

Long way to say any of the 4 is supposed to work, but one of the 4 options might work a lot better then the other three without some adjustments.

This is what I've used for the last few years. Makes good knots and is as close to sisal in size as it gets. 269 and 310 Baler.Good Luck.

Around Here sisal and wire are NO GO.. bale with it and you cant even give em away..

I grew up running 9600 170 in our small balers.. about 15-20 years ago it seemed like the 170 quality went down. We then went to 9600 210 and have never looked back.

oh thats in our NH 277's

If you don't have plastic twine wrapped up in everything you own and don't want to for the rest of your life, don't start using it now. Go with 9000 sisal.

I know the older square balers were made plastic was not made. And our New Holland could not be adjusted to make the plastic work. And they had to have the 7200 twine as the knotters would not handle the smaller 9000 twine. NH 66 And McCormick 46.

I use 9000 sisal in my 24T. Race Brothers in Carthage, MO has it The folks that buy my hay like it better than the poly twine. Tried the plastic one year but could not get it to tie right. Might have to give it another shot.

I do not see how anybody can like that very nasty poly twine, I hate it. Even when I was buying other machinery to rebuild for the Amish I would get machinery with it on and was tearible to get off so I could get things ready for resale.
