Hi all. I'm wanting to move IBC totes of water around the farm. I have a MF 245. I know the tractor ratings, but I'm looking for some practical/ realistic advise considering the load is sticking out a ways. I have bucket forks and can lift them with about 150 gallons. From those with more experience...would I be able to lift them full with proper forks on the FEL? What about 3 point forks? Thank you in advance.
 
Proper forks would bring the load closer and allow you to lift more. A ton is a lot of weight for that tractor. I’m also moving IBC totes with water and will be going to 3 pt forks because of the weight.
 
Water is 8 lb per gallon. 150 gallons is 1200 pounds. What does a tote hold full? The totes I have hold 250 gallons. That puts the weight at 2000 pounds way out there in front of the bucket IF the tote holds 250 gallons. Best way to find out if it will work is to fill the tote completely and try lifting it.
 
I think mine are a little more, 275 gallons. Probably 2400-2500# with the tote itself.

I agree best way would be to try it, but all I have is the bucket forks which I did try and can lift 150 gallons. I'm trying to figure if its worth buying proper
FEL forks or 3 point forks to accomplish this.
 
3pt forks would be the only thing I would consider. That's just too much weight on the front for that tractor. Lifting the weight and driving around with it are two different things.
 
I agree with MJ and move them around with the three point. Like he said, thats allot of weight for that size tractor on the FEL.
 
I agree with tractorsam, I'm not sure what bucket forks look like but if they put the load farther out that is bad, and then you have the additional weight of the bucket. We have proper forks for our JD 4600 and I carry a tote a little over 1/2 full, and not very high when traveling.
