It should be 'level' front to back. Level from side to side.Set the left wheel on a 6 to 8" block as to mimic being in the furrow. Adjust top link, and lift link to accomplish this. Don't even think about "measureing" the top link. Adujst in or out till correct levelness is achieved. You can fine tune while actually in the field.

In really hard ground you may have to drop the point of the
plow share a bit more but probably won?t Be a worry for spring

Rotating the cross bar is how you adjust the width of cut on the first bottom. If you can't turn it far enough to get a 14" bottom to cut 14"(or whatever width the bottoms are) then the rear wheel spacing needs to be changed.

ET what is the "cross bar"? is it the hitch stay or part of the plow?

The cross bar, pull shaft is the part on the plow that the lower lift links on the tractor hook to. It has an offset to it so when its rotated the plow will follow the tractor more to the left or right depending on what direction its rotated.

And there are exact directions for doing this in owners manual includind what distance it is set sideways from frame to pull pin, If that has been moved turning the piece will not help.

Yup, the more to the left or right is called adjusting the "lead" of the plow.
