Hello!
I've got a Massey Ferguson 253 and want to use a 3 point disc with it. What size, weight, and type would you recommend? I assume that an 8' with serrated discs would be good (1,200lbs?), but that's as deep as my knowledge goes : )
I appreciate your thoughts, including more appropriate implements.
[b:9fd40e8ea4]Tractor Specs[/b:9fd40e8ea4] - Massey Ferguson 253 Diesel
Rear wheel drive
Air in tires
Front weights
57hp
7' wide to outside edge of tires
Rear lift 2,600lb
Weight ~ 4,000
[b:9fd40e8ea4]Soil Type[/b:9fd40e8ea4] - Greene County, Missouri (Ozarks)
Clay/Loam 8" to 20"
Below that Clay and chert rock
Hilly
And, some river bottom ("top" soil)
[b:9fd40e8ea4]Purpose[/b:9fd40e8ea4] - Land hasn't been plowed in decades.
Mainly break up fescue (very thick) for clover/prairie establishment ~5 - 10 acres
Establish Firebreak
Vegetable Plots/Small Corn
Break up unplowed soil
(Later) Replow plowed soil (much less)
Bonus if I can maneuver slightly around saplings
Happy to find additional info. Newbie to plowing.
Thanks!
Will
