Anyone use this kind of rake?

I've seen a few of these large, one direction wheel rakes for sale on market place. Do they work good? Seems like they wouldn't in small or irregular fields.

We use to have one.Tonutti was the brand. Most I have seen the tongues were welded up.They worked alright.

Work ok in light hay. More tolerant of rocks and bumps than a bar rake. Don?t tend to make a very even windrow especially in really heavy crop.

They rake clean alright, but they won't make a corner. The wheels stop turning and just drag.

My family has used a couple of smaller
wheel rakes for decades.
Morrill brand I think. They work great for
our needs. Nice and gentle with the oat
hay, and does great job of raking clean
over very rough ground in the many cattle
pastures we cut for hay.
And to start the field, put first 2 wheels
down only and drive counterclockwise to
pull hay away from fence on outside round
only. Then loop around to head clockwise
again, still with only front 2 wheels down
on outside round, and makes nice windrow
without shoving it into the fence.
2 nd round gets 3 wheels down so as not to
bury outside round, then for 3rd round,
all wheels down and get going

Often thought a mini version of that type would well for raking up leaves in the fall. Haven't found one though. May keep looking for one that some one is discarding.

We had one, I think it was a Vicon. It did an ok job. It would rope the hay up a bit sometimes, and as mentioned below, was good in a straight line, but when you turn the wheels can stop turning and drag.

Those old ones with the tines bolted to the outside of the wheel don't rake as clean as the ones with the heavier tines that go all the way to the center of the wheel.

Check your local big box store, Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, or search Northern Tool. Couple friends have them for leaf clean-up in fall and they both say they work better than they ever imagined. There's two types, a "V" style 2 wheels on each side for 48 inch width and a 6 wheel straight line rake with 55 inch width. The 55" is the one to get. Search for "lawn wheel rake".
