Brillion cultimulcher

Does anyone know how the crownfoot rollers do on a brillion cultimlcher i just bought one and it has the crownfoots on the front and solid rollers on the back. I like to just roll the field after planting soybeans and not sure if the crownfoot rollers will dig up the seed or bring more rocks up any info would be appreciated thanks!

The crow foots wont hurt a thing. I have two of them with crowfoot fronts(a 10' and a 16'),both have been used to roll seed. The crowfoot 'works' ground/breakes clods better than solids. Just take a 'test drive' across a corner of the field before you plant to find out.I'm sure you will be pleased.Be sure to leave the teeth UP!

Crowfoot packers do not do well in wet soil. Not much fun cleaning one out if it plugs. Too many rocks can break the cast wheels. I have a 12' crowfoot packer that is hitched to the back of my drill. Works great in my sandy soil.

If you have clay soil that likes to crust heavy after a rain put the crowfoot on the back instead of the front. It will leave a packed base but not a packed top layer tomake crusting worse.

I had one which it will leave your field looking like a golf course. Why do you roll after planting......is it to get good seed to soil contact by breaking up the clods? In my ground, the soybeans always had a hard enough time sprouting through the soil. It would be a nail biter for me to pack the ground after planting especially if followed by a shower. Crusting would be terrible. I ran the cultimulcher prior to planting breaking clods and always had a good stand. Your results may vary.

That crowfoot if placed on back will help with that problem. The packer does what the press wheel drils do. But with them it only packs a 2" strip for each opener. Hook a spike tooth harrow in back of that packer and you will mostly eliminate that problem. We had a Lehr foot roller that I would consider a predesor to the crow foot Dad bought used in about 1950 and used it behind the grain drill from time I first can remember. When axle wore out and never found time to replace I had a singlr roller light weight packer tith a free rolling sprocket type of wheel between every standard roller and a spike tooth type of harrow behind them for beans. Cover drag chains were removed from drill as they were worthless. On crusty soil never had much problem doing that, now a standard packer would make things crust big time. Same think the press wheel drill does and the press wheel drill leaves same type of surface as the crow foot would.

Solids on clay or heavier dirt. Crowfoot on sandy or lighter dirt. Usually the way it is done around here. Lately they all are going to those egg beater looking things. Have a blade looking reel like the old reel mowers that roll along to break up clods and cut some of the trash. They work ok. My brother bought one to pull behind his disk.
