I bought this tractor last week at an auction. After starting it a few times the throttle linkage broke so I called our local MF dealer. Of course it was not available but the counter person said he could order one that has a longer screw linkage in it. He had 1 end in stock so he ordered the other end and the screw for me. I didn't ask what the cost was. The screw was about 6" long and had left hand threads on 1 end and right on the other and was 1/4" dia. The end was 12 dollars so I figured the screw part wouldn't be any more. Called Monday and the part was in. Got down there and the guy I usually deal with got it and looked kinda funny. He asked me what I thought it was price wise and I said probably 25.00. It was 99.00 and change. Needless to say, it's still at the dealers. I came home and made a new one out of parts I had on hand that work fine. Even the counter man said it was pathetic and he wouldn't buy it either. Sometimes things just amaze me. Keith

I have ran into this from AGCO more than once. The lift arms on a Oliver 1650 have that little U shape casting that locks them from floating. I needed two. I was not having any luck finding used ones so I priced them new. They cost around $50 each. I just told the parts guy to get them. I also told him to get the four washers and two pins that hold them in. My wife stopped and picked up the parts. The washers where $4-5 not great but not terrible. The pin where $60 each. They are 3/4 in diameter and about 2 inches long. I took them back and the parts guy said the same thing yours did. I stopped on the way home and bought two Cat I top link pins for $2 each. I cut them to length and drilled a 7/16 hole in each one for the clip to hold them in.

How about a $450 mower shoe that I made from 1/4 x 4 flat bar in a couple hours. No wonder people won't buy from dealers.

You're right. You know it's bad when the counter person who has been there for years says he wouldn't buy it. keith
