Back to the NH271 knotter problems

So one of the plunger side feeder teeth was broken so I replaced that. I also sharpen the twine knife up a bit on the side giving me problems. Also put ATF on the ball of the twine knife arm. May need to adjust the gap of the wiper arm since it seem a bit to open and if I remember right it should pretty much rub the bill hook and not have a gap which it seem to have. Hope to cut hay tomorrow and then bale on Tuesday.

So would a broken feed tooth cause knots not to tie?

Would think the gap on the wiper arm to billhook would be more of the problem. Would think the feeder teeth would be more of a banana bale issue.

Never had a banana bale problem and up till now not had a knot problem but it did sit 2 or 3 years with out being used. But figured since I had the feeder tooth on hand I would replace it and maybe I'll see if I can close that gap on the wiper arm

The New Holland tech on our 273 would take the lower bolt of the knot assembly out and slowly pivot the assembly up watching the wiper and would use a hammer to bring it really close. The other thing is our baler had a sweet spot just below PTO speed and it would not miss. One year we put 20,000+ of hay through ours and only missed at the change of the ball of twine. We did use the larger sisal twine which might help.
