Frankenstein 2-row seed depth?

I bought a 2-row planter at an auction; posted pictures here trying to identify, and most answers agreed it looks "like AC Planter units... on a toolbar". I have no idea which planter units so haven't been able to find any kind of manual. Everything seems to be working, but my concern at this point is how to adjust the seed depth? It was set for corn (still had some seed in it when I bought it) but I'm going to plant peas. I need to raise the depth. If it is with these adjusters (yellow circle in the first picture) how do you measure to get the desired depth? Would I extend this link so as to have the packing wheels lower, which raises the front?

You would have what is often called an AC 333 planter, but that is the framing actually, you likely have 71 planter units. Or perhaps you have the older 50 series?

Here is some good info, do you have cranks like in the photos in this link?

Lowering the wheels in front shouldn?t do anything, each unit should flex up and down. He would only be raising the frame then, not affecting seed depth.

If he doesn?t have the cranks as in the pics in my link, then he is likely right that screw brace will affect the angle of the rear press wheel and the seed disks.

I?m not so familiar with the AC stuff.

Paul, no, my unit does not have the cranks as in the link you sent. I looked up an AC 72 four row planter: it had the cranks like your link. So, adjusting the screw braces: how to you know when you have the correct depth? Trial and error?

Those are NOT 71/72 planter units. They are 50 series. You can tell by the seed cans (round metal) and by the drives. All of the ones I have seen had a crank behind the seed can to adjust the depth. I would guess these have been modified with the turnbuckles to adjust the depth. It will be trial and error. The shorter the turnbuckle, the deeper the seed depth. Make sure the press wheels are carrying the weight of the unit. May need to adjust the wheels on the frame.
