King-Wise Elevator Sprocket

Broke the chain sprocket on the King-Wise elevator. Looks like it is on the shaft with a key. Probably been on there a few decades. Wonder where I might find such a sprocket? Wonder how difficult it will be to get the old broken one off the shaft. It was 95 degrees and humid Sat afternoon when it broke, going to tie into it Mon morning. Wonder why it broke?

The most likely reason for a cast iron elevator sprocket to break would be that the steel detachable chain "wrapped" around the sprocket and jammed it because of being run too loose and/or being badly worn in the links.

Baum Hydraulics in Omaha still stocks several sizes of sprockets to fir detachable steel chain, not sure where else to check if they don't have a sprocket for the chain size and number of teeth you need.

I?m going to guess this is a flat chain, bale elevator? And has the common size sprocket?

Otherwise, please tell us what size chain and what exactly you have going on there.....

You can find that sprocket, but it takes a little research. Get the numbers off your chain so you know what sprocket size you have.

As the other person said, likely the chain stretched and was loose and you loaded it a little heavy or a bale caught and the chain wrapped around and locked up and the sprocket happened to be what broke.

The part # of the pulley is T54S40. It has 54 teeth, has 1 inch dia shaft and 1/4 in key. The chain is #40, with 1/2 between links.

Yes, hay bale elevator , searched the chain for a number but I'm sure that it is a #40 roller chain.Sprocket has 54 sharp teeth. It is time to replace it and the chain. I remember replacing the chain a couple years ago .

Oh, the little drive chain and sprockets that drive it.

Should be no problem finding one of those.
