NH 268 question

I have a NH 268 that has always bales perfectly. This year, it seems to not cut the string off the right side of the bale sometimes causing the right side string to trail out behind the baler after the bale drops. I have to restring it and it will work for 20 or so bales, then do the same thing.

Could this be a timing issue, or would it more likely be a knotter issue?

Dull twine knife will cause that since a dull knife cannot cut the twine like it should. Simple as taking a small wet stone and dressing up the knife. Every time I use my NH271 I dress up the knifes

The right side twine finger is getting hung on the needle. The manual says there should be 1/32 clearance, but I can t find how to adjust it, because the adjustment bolts ( A and B) in the manual don t appear to be on my baler.

The under side of the needle is beat up and shiny from rubbing against the metal of the knotter too. Is there a way to adjust the needle?

Never Ming guys. I found the answer to the needle/twine finger issue.

It might still be a knife issue, but this definitely needs to be fixed.

On my NH271 I have always found a twine issue where the twine is not cut it is the knifes being dull. And it is real easy to sharpen them

Thanks for all the input guys. I finally got the needles and twine fingers aligned, and the twine knives are razor sharp.

I wanted to check the timing, but the front timing marks are rusted away.

[b:03ca79901f]Can I just place the crank is top-dead-center?[/b:03ca79901f] If so, the rear timing marks show that it is out of time.

YEP. 3 sets of marks, crank, feeder, knotters. It usually takes 2 guys, one to hold, while one to puts the chains on "tight-no slack" in the pull direction. Crank is straight up, feeder fingers need the marks, knotter need the marks.
