2-12 case trip plow

I posted this in the case forum but didn't get much response. I just bought this plow. I am hoping to gather any information I can, model, hints ect. It does say Case on the main beams and it is 2-12s. I would like to know what size tires should be on it. Also it looks like there were some rubber mounts on the tongue, but one is completely gone and the other is not far from it. What was the purpose of these and what is involved in fixing or replacing them.

I will try to post some pictures tonight, but there are some on the other forum.

Thanks

Any rubber on the hitch would be somebody tried that to get rid of the normal loosness in the hitch that he did not like, should not be there. Now for tires does it have a bolt on disk wheel, should be a 16" for a 6:00 or 6:50x 16". Now if a spoke wheel the was orignally steel with a rim welded on anybodys guess what they used. And coulters mount to beam with a clamp. Coulter edge should be 1-2" infront of shin of moldboard, coulter shank could be turned different ways to get proper setting.

it does not list the tail wheel tire size but here are the front wheels tire sizes as for the rubber parts I do not have any on any of the five CASE Centennial plows nor does it show them in the parts book I would say some one added them

So the tongue is supposed to be loose and the rubber was added? It has 16" wheels and the tail wheel is steel. I assume both of the front tires should be the same. It looks like it would take a 5.5 or 6. Here are some pictures.

OK I see it better now I am not sure what you have there as I show nothing with that style tail wheel,, Case Centennials raise and ride on the tail wheel as do every model I have seen or have books for,, this is how Case plows mounted the hitch, I can see why yours has the rubber now as it carries on the front two wheels, I do not remember any CASE plow made like yours, can you post a pic of the lift unit, I am wondering if you have a part from a CASE installed on a other brand plow, J.I Case Plow Works made a different plow but they were not made when rubber tires came to be

I can see nothing to be able to carry the back end of the plow, for that there has to be a connection from front end of hitch to front end of frame, chain or rod and see no mounting for that. I did not realize Case only made a plow with the tail wheel to carry it. The one I got for an Amish friend several years ago you helped me with and about 2 years ago he had it so wore out could no longer use it so I bought a parts 3 bottom and using that was able to rebuild his 2 bottom for use again. He has a seat mounted on the frame of the plow to pull it with his horses, think he uses 5 head on the 2-14" plow. That rubber is just because the previous ownereither did not like sound of hitch parts hitting each other that I have never been able to hear or thought there was enough play there to make plow not hold a straight line width of cut. Or possibly to get rid of road wip that if you lower plow with depth adjustment so it just clears the pavement any pull type plow will wip less on the road at road speeds and that is probably whi the rubber is there.

Any tire from a 5:50 to a 7:50 will work, just that the bigger tire you will loose a bit of cutting depth that you should not be trying to go full setting depth as well but the larger tire will give the lift more traction and they will give you a bit more trash-road clearance by lifting plow higher. That plow would have been avaible on steel wheels as well with a rim diameter of close to 28"

The rubber on the hitch is correct. It should be tight enough to make the hitch almost solid. I have had a few of those plows.

These are the pictures I have now. Im hoping to get over to work on it this afternoon, I will take some more. It says case on the main beams.

I believe what you have is a Case model BL plow. These were a light duty economy version of the Centennial
plow. Not a lot of them made or sold. The pic that I posted from literature seams to show a spring from the
tongue to the frame to raise the tail wheel, and the picture does not show the hitch well enough to
determine if it used those rubber snubbers, and does appear to utilize flat steel clevis's rather than the rubber snubbers and flat arms to connect beams to the hitch cross bar.

I think the rims on mine were only about 4.5 inches wide. I put some free used motorcycle tires on it that I got at a motorcycle shop. Don't know the purpose of the rubber mounts, but I think you you make new ones by cutting pieces out of used tires and stacking them.

I was wondering about using a spring in place of the rubber. Just tighten the spring with a washer and the stiffness would be adjustable. Do you think this would work?
