Haying with my 955 Deere

Bought a sickle bar mower to use with my 955. The hydraulic lift is a single hose; the Deere has a dual rear send and return line. How does one work with this? Get a two line hydraulic piston? I cannot see the one way piston working at all...not sure there is sufficient hydraulic oil to run the one way piston. Thoughts?

All you need is a single action cylinder to lift your
mower, the weight of the mower , with the aid of
gravity, will drop it to the cutting position. Just plug
you hydraulic line into either remote, and activate
the hydraulic and watch it rise, then shove the lever
the other way, and it will drop. To lines are required
when you want the remote cylinder to extend and
contract under pressure. You may want to try, both
of your remote outlets on the tractor, to determine
which outlet is the one we?re the lever will go to the
float position, if your tractor is so equipped. If you
feel the need to have a double action cylinder,
depending on the cylinder, it should have a second
plug that you could remove and plumb in a second
line. Shouldn?t be necessary in this application.

Thank you for the information...it's pretty much what I guessed, except Deere was emphatic about not running with the two rear hydraulics disconnected from one another, so that is/was a concern for me.

I have never owned a Deere tractor, but I have had
Ford, Massey, IH ,Case ,CaseIH and Kubota, ran
hydraulic cylinder with one line on them all one time
or another. So unless your JD tractor is a lot
different somehow, I don?t see a problem.

Ok I have run into a block here: the hay sickle I bought uses a single hose hydraulic piston but my Deere has a send/return 2 hose hydraulic rear pair of hoses. If I disconnect my rear pair of hydraulics and hook up just one side to the single piston, my rear Rockwells will not function( kind of important).
Clearly it appears that I need a different hydraulic set up; this will not work. What I suspect I need is a twin hose hydraulic cylinder so I can run the lift arm of the mower , even at the risk of having hydraulic power both ways. Help!

Check with your owners manual...some tractors will have a lever or a way to change a valve that will allow your dual acting hydraulics to function as single acting, jut plugging a single acting cylinder in will not work.

What are rear 'Rockwells'?
