336 knotter parts

I accidentally broke one of the bill hooks on my JD 336 last year and replaced it with a used one I had picked up from an auction. Fast forward, I think I need to replace both because the older side is not tying 100% and it looks like the bill hook small roller has flats worn on it. Looking up JD parts, there are 2 types available: all twine and sisal. Anyone know the difference? I typically use 7200 sisal but occasionally use plastic on straw.

In the New Holland world billhooks designed for plastics are also good to use with sisal. Billhooks for plastic close closer and that is not a concern when using sisal twine.

So I am thinking I need the wider opening bill hook. It seems the flat worn on the roller is keeping the bill hook from opening enough and it is stabbing one of the twines instead of grabbing it entirely.

Don't forget to look at the casting where the wheels roll. I have seen grooves get worn in the casting. When this happens the bill hook does not open enough. If there is a groove, fill with weld and grind smooth.

There is no difference on opening! Difference is on closing. You need the one that closes more as it works on sisal and plastic twine.
