Kinze New Idea Dry Fertilizer Hopper Troubles

I have troubles with the Kinze dry fertilizer setup on my New Idea planter. If anything causes the fertilizer tubes to plug up, it either brakes chains or shears pins. THere is no place for the fertilizer to go. Can I take out the shaft bearings (#17) on each end of the hopper? The auger on our old JD 7000 planter just floated without a bearing. When things plugged up it just ran fertilizer out the end without busting anything.

Those look almost identical to the ones on my AC 333. On that one,those castings in the end of the boxes (Number 10) have a slot in them for it to leak out if the tubes become plugged.
