I have a 1989 Gehl 3610 skidlaoder with the Isuzu 3 cylinder diesel engine in it. Serial number 5212. The engine is a 3KR1 (one) if that matters at all. The issue I am having is I believe the starter may have went out?? I was pushing snow last Saturday morning at my daughter and son in laws place 30 miles away, hauled it back home, got it off the trailer and put it away in the shed and next morning it barely turned over (engine). It was -15 outside as well. The skidlaoder is in an unheated machine shed. Battery is charged up after going dead. Glow plugs cycle fine, now all I get is a "click" noise.... So I am wondering what the chances of the starter going bad completely or maybe just the solenoid?? This does not look like a fun job to get the starter out. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated sir. Let me know if you need any further info as well. Thank you so much.

Sounds like the starter went bad. I would verify that the battery is good and check the connections on the starter. Also check you have 12 volts at the start solenoid wire when holding key in crank position. I hard to say if the solenoid failed or something with the motor. I would just buy a complete starter. Easiest way to remove starter is from the bottom. Jack up skid loader and set it on blocks. Remove clean out pan.

What is the voltage at the starter when trying to start the skid loader? What is the amp draw? A little testing may save you from just throwing parts at the machine hoping to "find" the problem.
 
Hi Steve. Thank you for the info. I did find some new starters online in the $200.00 range.
