Wagon Brakes

I have 2 older DMI wagons that we like to use for overflows, the center dumps work great for us. The problem is neither have surge brakes on them and I was wondering how hard it would be to put brakes on them? Where would I find the parts to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have never done anything like this but I have replaced trailer axles. It is common when doing major axle work to just replace the whole brake assembly including the backing plates. I went to a local trailer shop where they have all the parts and make up complete axles to get my new ones. If I were you I would remove the wheels and take pics with measurements and take them to a trailer shop and ask them. I be that you will be able to weld brackets onto your axle onto which you will bolt the brakes.

I'd look for salvage yards with old Brent or Parker wagons that have been wrecked. Buy a gear and drop the DMI box on it.
