A lot of guys used the 4200 plows here for a long time, most have gone to switch plows now. I think the 4200 was a pretty good plow. I believe it is also possible to remove 4th bottom easily if you need to

Your 4020 will pull it ok but have fun carrying it. You will need lots of front end weights and you will be replacing hyd packings and load shaft parts. You will be able to see all the wear and slop in your wide front as it will be off the ground alot.LOL Tom

Hi SV. Yes, I was looking at that plow on Tractorhouse. Price is great. Just so you know that is a Shear-Pin Trip. That is not what the Operators Manual calls a Safety-Trip. Otherwise I might of been after that one. If you have few stones go for it.

Those bottoms are the 18" NU Bottoms. You can still get wear parts for them. Not so much for the 16" bottoms. The 18" bottoms have 5 bolt shares.

I don't see any welds on it in the pictures. It is tough to tell if anything is bent in pictures like that.

For your 4020 you would want to take the fourth bottom off. You would have to convert the 3rd bottom to have the long landside. The 71 4020 I have has the same diameter axle as the 4320 and 4250. I don't know the year of your 4020. Did all the 4020's have the same axle diameter?

If you have fairly level ground your 4020 should be OK. If you have hills you will have to be very careful. I don't know what you consider hills. I have come to learn what I call a knoll some people call hills. :)

When I ran my 4320 I had a double weight bracket with 8 flat weights. On my 4250 I run 10 suit case weights, 8 is marginal. I tried 8 last year but this year going back to 10.

I run a coulter on the 3rd bottom only. It makes a nicer edge, it makes me feel better. Coulters would be nice on the other bottoms in corn stalks but I want to keep the weight down.

When I first put the plow on my 4320 I had to adjust the linkage, otherwise I could not get it high enough. Adjusting the coulter swing is a little trick otherwise you could damage them when rolling the plow.

I love plowing with that plow and can cover a lot of ground. I leave the headlands a little wider and turn back on my self never touching the clutch.

I have not found a depth wheel necessary. The depth and draft controls on my 4250 and 4320 do a great job.

Get a manual to help you set it up.

I did not notice that it is shear pin trips. I would not worry to much about that as there are plenty of 1350-1450 plows for parts that would have the correct trip assembly to change over. If you bought it right you could change it over. Tom

Yup, there are more Shear-Bolt than Safety-Trip so I did that analysis in a spread sheet. I would be happy to share the spread sheet. What surprised me is what they call the Standard, I call it the shank (the cast crescent shaped casting that connects the frog to the two plow plates), has a different part number right and left. It turns out the F145a shares the RH Standard, the LH Standard can still be purchased. The F145a shares the LH Lever. The F145a Shares the RH and LH Plates.

My analysis is totally from the Parts Book. My Analysis does not take into account what "will work" because I don't know what features are driving the p/n change. I hope that is clearer than mud.

Bruce there is a modern semi mount plow you can buy but they?re spendy . I grew up plowing with a semi mount one way plow I went to the two ways because it?s easier to use on irregular shaped fields and where there is a lot of rock piles or other obstacles

2510Paul I thought the add said it was safety trip I thought it was the kind you back up and it resets ? So I don?t know if I?d want a shear bolt

Yes, I saw that in the ad also. I have found you have to be very careful because people confuse the terms. I recently had a guy call me with a "Safety Trip 18 inch" responding to my CL ad. When I got some pictures, not only were they shear pin, they were 16" (four bolt) bottoms spaced at 18" on the plow beam.

So ya, be careful.

Good luck. I was hoping you could use that plow but it sounds like not. I see it is not on Tractorhouse tonight. Someone else must have bought it.
