What square baler New Holland Case or Masey Ferguson

Given a choice between a Masey Ferguson 12, a New Holland 68, and a Case 220 square baler which one would you choose. I need to bale about 500 grass bales a year. If I"m down I have access to a NH 68. I"m a decent implement mechanic. I don"t care much for it though. I do what I have to. Thanks!

I'd go with the 12, still run a 9 and they are a decent baler. All depends what parts are like. There were lots of MF sold here so parts machines are still around.

Only one sold around me was New Holland. It was tied with Deere. I think I saw one Case model?, and pickup was wrecked. No dealers and buying anything was considered like buying a pig in a poke, had no idea what you were going to get. One MF dealer quite a ways away and hardly known. Have no idea where you would even go for parts for the MF let alone the Case. I don't dought the quality of the others but none around or support for them.

It depends on your ground and crop. If your crop is usually average the NH would be best, but if the growth sometimes gets really heavy due to waiting for a good weather stretch the MF will handle a huge windrow better.

The New Holland, but I have a Case. They are not that bad a baler for your volume if they are adjusted right and once you get the hang of operating it. Very simple baler. Easy to crowd the pickup and clog if you don't pay attention though.

Definitely the New Holland. I'm sure the others are fine balers, but a broken needle will send them to the scrapyard. I had a MF 12. The knotters are a different design than most balers. The specific parts were getting expensive, and that was 20 years ago.

New Holland simply because of parts support. The others may well be better, more capable balers for all I know, but where are you going to get parts?

Out of those three probably NH because of parts, the massey second. The case not at all as they had some issues and parts are most likely hard to get. Do not rule out John Deere or international if you have them in your area. What ever you do go over it this winter/spring and get it ready for summer.

We have a New Holland 68 and after a refurb (including wooden plunger slides), it does a nice job. Search this forum for NH68 and you?ll find our posts working on it. Parts and Internet forum support are excellent.

Good luck,
Bill
New Holland 68

The New Holland just because of the parts support. The Case is about impossible to find parts for. The MF does have some parts support but they cost an arm and a leg. Also the NH and JD knotter are dead easy to work on. Many videos and manuals on the knotters.

The knotters are another big advantage of the MF over the NH and JD. The tucker fingers and the twine wipers on the JD and NH may be easy to work on, but you don't work on tucker fingers or twine wipers on an MF because it doesn't have them, LOL!
