John Deere 7000 planter - cast iron closing wheel arm???

I want to upgrade my John Deere 7000 bean planter from the bolt type to the lever activated down pressure closing wheels. I can get the upgrades from Shoup or Sloan, but someone has offered me the closing wheel arms from a newer planter (1770) which are cast iron. The original John Deere 7000 closing wheel arms are pressed steel. Has anyone ever put the cast iron closing wheel arms on a John Deere 7000? Or, does anyone know if they would fit and work on a John Deere 7000? I am interested in the cast iron arms as he is selling the arm and press wheels for $20 a unit. Thanks.

Back in the 90's I converted a JD 7000 from standard press wheels to cast iron press wheels. As I remember, changed nothing but the wheels and over 6000 acres, they gave no trouble. This was for mostly no-till corn into soybean stubble and beans into corn stalks.

Thanks. I know about the cast iron press wheels. I am wanting to use a cast iron press wheel arm rather than the stamped press wheel arm. The cast iron press wheel arm was used on the newer planters.

Whatever you do don't get the closing wheel arms from sloan's they are poorly made and don't fit right don't ask why I just know.

I did get 6 of the closing wheel arms with the lever adjustment from Shoup last year and they fit and worked great.

I had to replace the ones I got from Sloan's with ones from shoup's the one from Sloan's must be stamp some what off as they would not adjust properly the ones from Shoup's were a perfect fit.

If they are close to you go get one and try it. I am almost sure they will work and would be a good upgrade. In conventional ground be careful not to run to much down pressure on your cast wheels. On my 7200 I run one cast wheel and one Martin spike wheel in both notill and conventional. I have a 7000 that we use for soybeans and run wheels with L shaped fingers. Tom
