IH Loader Identification

There are several IH loader models of that vintage but they all have their unique characteristics. If the loader has a mounting frame where the box tubing is formed in a radius and sweeps back to the rear axle it is either a 2000 or 2001. The 2000 would have dump cylinders on the sides of the loader boom and the 2001 would either have a single cylinder in the middle or a trip bucket. The 1701 loader has a frame that does not extend to the rear axle and would have single dump cylinder or a mechanical trip. The 1501 has a frame similar to the 2000/2001 in that it goes to the rear axle but it is a welded design, not formed tubing. The brochure I have lists the 2001 and 1501 as "officially" fitting your 424 but that doesn't necessarily mean that other models wouldn't have worked.

Not any identification tags that I know of, I will try to attach a picture of the 1501 loader on my 424 so that you can compare.

Using these newfound facts, I have determined it to be an IH 2000. Out of curiosity, will the loader lift more than the front axle can hold?

The 2000 is rated at around 4000 lbs breakout and 2300 lbs lifted to full height but this is when it is mounted on a 756. When mounted on something as small as a 424 the tractor will be more of a limiting factor than the loader itself. I have the same issue as I have a 2000 mounted on a Farmall 350. For infrequent use you should be fine, especially if you don't ask the loader to lift what it is technically capable of. Keep the front tires aired up to their max allowable pressure.
