Kosch Side-Mount Sickle Bar Mowers for Farmall C

My Dad had one for an H and it worked great. Sure was easy to watch and see how it was mowing. This one keeps you from having a sore neck!! Only wish I had kept it. We used it for a. long time with only the hand lever. Dad finally got tired of lifting it and put on the hydraulic cylinder. Boy was that nice!!

Do you remember if they used standard IH mower guards? I assume that IH made a side-mount mower for the tractor as well.

I have used one on a C for the last fifty years. I don?t mow any hay with it now, but still do all the trimming, clipping pastures, and about fifty acres of rough mowing for customers.

A pitmanless mower would be better for some of that, but the Koch is simple and rugged, and easy to maintain.

They use IH guards and knives, standard bearings and belts, and the yoke and hinge setup is heavier than the IH.

I agree that the price is a little high, for that money I would want to see pretty new guards and knives.

If you look at it, check the yoke for cracks, and the hinge for wear and slop. The cutter bar itself can crack, right where it is bolted to the hinge casting.

Make your own pitman sticks, or have them made from whatever local wood has a reputation for strength. ?Store bought? ones are often cross grained or punky.

Any piece of machinery can be beaten to death, but most of the damage I have done to mine has been accidental, catching stumps and that sort of thing. The machines in the ad may not have it, but Kosch made a clutch inter lock that woul stop the tractor if you caught something with the mower

That's good information thanks. Yeah, guards are around $8.00 each. Wouldn't take long to have a lot of money in new parts. I don't think I would want to go above $200 unless the one mower is in good shape. I assume they are likely 7 ft. cutter bars.
