How long a top link is normal for a David Brown 885? After using this tractor for a summer on a brush hog (had to shorten link 1/2" first) but only recently mounting other attachments, it's obvious the top link purchased from Tractor Supply is too long. My best bet for a supplier with more than one choice is quite a drive so I'd like call and ask first. Anyone know how long a top link I should be asking for?

Some implements require a longer or shorter than standard top link. If it's clearly to short or long, measure it and get the next size up or down. I think I have 4 different lengths here.

As was said, different lengths are available. Buy the next shorter size.Or(like I did)cut an inch or two out of the middle and weld it back together.

when I bought the category3 top link for my 1256 it was too long.A shorter one wasn't available. So I cut 3" out of the middle,Veed out each half ,welded, then ground down smooth.Painted it.Cant tell it was even altered.

The original one I have that came with my 990 is about 24" closed up.Different equipment will take different length top links I have quite a collection of them to go thru to get the right length sometimes.

Guess I suffer from the Box Store type of local farm equipment dealer with a one size fits all inventory. The two different local franchise/chain stores have run the good mom-n-pop ones out of business. The real equipment dealers require a pretty fair drive to reach. Guess a Saturday drive is in order.
