Rotary Mower Blades

I am using a mower from a friend, he purchased it from someone else so, we do not know the make. Due to vibration I decided to replace the stump jumper as so I could have new blade bolts, one of the holes in the old pan was wallowed out. I started out trying to purchase new bolts, it appears the old blade bolts are possibly metric, so replace the pan with new bolts. My old blade thickness is .480, 1 1/2" hole.. The new bolts are 3 1/2" compared to 2 7/8" old bolts, the new bolts have a blade shoulder for a .500 blade thickness. OK, the question is, is are there blade bolts that will fit my blades. YES, I could cut off the new bolts and make them work, but then I still have to much vertical play with the blades I now have. OPEN to suggestions.

You need to research the blade bolts more. There are many different sizes of blade bolts. You need to find the one that fit your blades better. Try this site as they have many options. Just brose the different brand and look for one that would work better for you.

Rotary cutter bolts.

You are probably overthinking it. .480 blade thickness and a .500 shoulder on the bolt is probably just what you need. If the extra bolt length doesn?t interfere with anything and the nuts tighten down properly, run it.

Many thanks for all the good suggestions, I will research the blade bolts for the proper length and will go with the blades I have. As always the information and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to all, I will contact the suggested suppliers and inquire as to what bolt they have that will work.

It sounds like you have model BB70 blade bolts which measure 3-1/2" overall height with a 1/2" shoulder for the blade, what you probable had was the BB55 version of the bolt which would measure 3" with the same 1/2" blade shoulder. Both bolts have a 1-1/8" threads and a key manufactured into the bolt to hold it into place. If you have clearance there is no issue using the longer bolt as the bottom end of both are the same.
