I was able to calibrate the grain box for the seed. I started with the selector on number 4 which gave us 17 pounds . The guy wants 30 so we bumped it up and ran several calibration passes to make sure I had it set and that it would not decide to stay at consistent rate for what ever reason . Thanks again to whoever invented the seeder meter . Guy even sent help I didn?t have to touch a bag of seed .

Looking Good! WOW 30 lbs a acre,, here it would get about 12" high at best and burn up 98% of the time,, different areas lol as for the seed-o-meter feed cups,, I do know Case had them in the 20's no idea when JD starting using them,, they are Very adjustable for sure, guessing you know but there are like four settings just for the feed cup door for different rates/and crop types

Had an accident here years ago, miss set the seeder, wanted about 12 lbs alfalfa and got a shade over 20, ran out just over half way across field, had to finds some more seed in a hurry.
Anyhow, had a great crop of alfalfa, but getting the swath to dry for first cut was a nightmare. Ended up silaging the first cut until I tore the stand up 6 or 7 years later.

Just drive the tractor......Did they refuel & grease the equipment too? It don't get any better than that! LOL

What's the row spacing on that drill?

You would need a chisel plowing to try to seed anything around here, and really no chance of it sprouting - or rotting - until about March, maybe April around here. Southern MN.

If it were warm enough to seed anything, the ground would be too muddy anyhow.

Love that my ancestors thought this was a good place to settle down and start a farm! Ah well.

Looks good there.

Why would he want 30 #/acre? We get an excellent stand with 8-10 #/acre, pulling a cast packer. About 15 #/acre without. At $5 per #....

I don?t know 🤷‍♀️? I do know you like to put on a heavier rate for drilling in the winter and frost seeding . He also raises the seed . Like I told the guys loading the drill I don?t get paid to think I get paid to do . I know the most I?ve drilled on my own place is 16

We?ve had a long season this fall it?s been so dry started plowing and drilling In August. I hope we don?t have a repeat of last year . I farmed until the week before Christmas last year and then the only reason I quit was because I had been freezing my butt off since October and I was tired of it

6 and 13/16 spacing actual John Deere calls it a 7 .
The seeder meter comes with a chart so that you
can figure out any spacing . I still had to grease and
fuel

Yes I bought the factory manuals for the drills there Is a lot of adjustments on the feeds and cups

I always work the ground and run the ring roller it, spread the seed with the 4 wheeler and then roll again. We always plant it in the spring

Most everybody around here only leaves the hay in about 7 or 8 years even less on the organic fields which this will be and that?s also another reason to seed so heavy to try and keep the weeds crowded out as best as possible . I?ve seen hay stands that still looked ok after 20 years . The one Hay field at home we planted to hay when I was in grade school and it still was in hay after I graduated college

I have older lit that I was sure said seed-o-meter but maybe I am dreaming,, I do know Case used this same cup system in the 20's as I have a wooden box drill with them
