Name that 4 bottom plow

I bought this plow in 1988, we used it some on our place with a John Deere model A, but ran it shallow cause it was too much for our 2 banger.

I hope to use it soon with my Farmall 450... shouldn't have any problems pulling it.

What is it? Idk if it's a 14' or 16'. Gonna need tires for sure.

I really cant see enough to be 100% sure but it looks to have a oil bath trip unit,, if I am seeing it right then I am saying a Case Centennial plow,, If it is a Case it will have CASE stamped in the top of the frame and Abes aka a Eagle cast in some parts

Guessing a Case. The 450 should pull it. Lay your tape measure over beam center and measure
across. I am going by the color that is left.

Thanks for the quick reply guys...i have used a plow more times than I care to talk about, mainly behind a pair of sorrell mules! A 16' was a big plow for them.

With the JD A you could only run in low gear or it would boil the water out, but the 450 is about twice the tractor.

I'll take a torch and straighten the handles...i recall it being a bear to adjust it with bent handles.

It looks like they used automobile tires on the plow. That looks like the cheapest way to go. Hopefully i can read what size they were.

If not, I'll be back on here.

Thanks

Oil bath trip unit?? So i need to make sure it has oil in it before use? Was the oil bath an improvement over previous designs?

Just measure that wheel with the tape measure, probably a 16" rim and just find some not oversize used 16" tires, car or light truck. Actuall size does not mean that much. Just if you have 2 sizes put the larger on the land wheel and levers should have enough adjustment to not be a problem. Were probably when new either a 6:50 or 6:00 by 16"

According to your manual I'll need to get a couple 15" tires, shouldn't be a problem there. Also good tip on packing the bearings...i bet they need it.

Thanks one and all for the help.

Can't edit on here...
I think our JD A had 27 horses... not much for 4 bottom plow... it had no problem with a 2 bottom plow. I miss hearing dad plowing along the creek bottom, straight pipes, 2 cylinder, nothing like it.

We pulled an IH 4F-43 4-14 Fast Hitch plow the first 2 years we had our 450, Then Dad bought a nice
slightly used Case 4-14 pull type plow so we could use a Midwest plow harrow with it, smooth out plowed
ground for first pass with the disk. I pulled both the IH and Case plow in 3rd gear in old corn ground.
2nd gear with the IH plow but with the Case plow with harrow I had to run low side of 3rd, about 4-5
tenths mph slower than high 2nd. Tractor would overheat in hi 2nd. Tried pulling Case 5-14 plow with the
4010-D that replaced the 450 and that didn't work at all.

The Case plows seemed to pass much more trash than the IH #8 plows I was used to pulling. Last couple
years Dad farmed we did lots of fall plowing, no time to disk or chop stalks, just set off across the
field with the plow! Worked with the Case plows. Dad and I tried that one day with the SM-TA and 3-14 IH
#8, half mile rows. 4 hours later not quite done with first round, was lunch time, raised the plow and
called it a day!
