I ran across some shots of road maintenance with my rock rake I was looking for to add to the post below,,

I seldom ever use a back blade to dress roads or spread gravel since I bought this 7' rock rake about 18 years ago, it does this job with ease and others like in the spring when I have been plowing snow and there is some gravel off the road, this unit will pull it right back without bringing extra not needed or wanted dirt, you can see in these pics how well it creates a very good road bed that will pack down and hold the rock in place better than a moboard blade does and they separate the fines and rock, it is not a replacement at all for a rear blade but is used in place of one for many jobs as it has a way all its own,, most every person I have ever talked to that has or had one but did not care for it ran them straight,, like a rear blade I only use one set straight for certain jobs and working roads spreading gravel/dirt, I only add this as many people never think to use one that way,,

I actually drag mine in the gravel, otherwise yes that is how you use them.

:)

For finish work I will spin mine around and drag it with the teeth ?backwards? and it puts a nice finish on things.

Also I have a hyd too link, you can make it very aggressive or not so much by tilting it and it will grab more or less gravel as it goes.

what Paul said, I run mine backwards and start out with 50 lbs on it make a couple passes on then remove the weight

I am sure it works for you just fine dragging it backwards, I cant see the need for it or the added weight, I have seen guys turn blades around too when they cant run it set to cut,, I have never found a application it is even remotely good for as I want to be able to control instantly if its cutting, filling or carrying the material, but hey what ever works for you guys is fine with me lol

We use one of those to drag drifts off of fields and burn them. It does not drag alot of dirt like a blade does. That sure is some pretty country up there. Looks like you can see for miles!

I?ve never actually seen a unit with wheels in real life; heard of it and seen a few pics like yours. I?m sure the wheels add a lot of versatility.

For those 90% of us without wheels, running it normal makes it aggressive, running it backwards makes it feather out the work very fine and gentle like a hand rake with a light touch.

I used this one for the first week or two until my wheels came in bunching up rocks on the pipelines I had installed when the methane field was installed on my place, I put maybe 40 hours of run time on it before I got them I just knew for certain work they would add to its usefulness I can still use it with or without them and do at times by pulling a pin and turning them over or just shortening the top link and lifting them off the ground ,I still did not need to turn it around I control that by watching and by feel,, just like running a dozer or scraper ect always have, I understand 100% why you turn it around what I am saying is I do not need to, like using a loader bucket rolled over to push dirt,, much more efficient to use it with it set for loading the bucket and you can control the cutting action and maintain a smooth cut/work surface but this does require more skill, what I am saying is we each have our own way and skill level, if it works for you that way all is well and good, its the same with running a hand shovel, 98% of those I see use one have no clue how to do it and make the tool work for them not the other way around, sorry I guess I am and always have been a bit more picky about things when I should just stay out if it and keep my mouth shut, the original poster asked for info on them I was showing what I do with mine, lol
